How to use an AI agent as a practical GTM coach

Turn Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, WorkBuddy, or another skill-ready AI agent into a weekly go-to-market coach that prioritizes, creates, and learns with you.

A useful GTM agent should choose before it writes

Most AI marketing workflows start with an output: ten social posts, a launch thread, or a generic channel list. That is backwards. The expensive mistake is usually choosing the wrong work, not writing the first draft slowly.

A GTM Coach should first identify the project type, lifecycle stage, evidence level, current bottleneck, and one primary channel. Only then should it write an interview script, outreach note, X post, launch page, SEO brief, or community reply.

What the free GTM Coach does each week

The skill runs a compact operating loop inside the AI agent you already use. A code repository is optional: you can provide a website, newsletter archive, store page, portfolio, community page, syllabus, marketplace listing, or a plain-language project brief.

  1. Confirm the big picture: project type, audience, offer, stage, evidence, and primary channel.
  2. Find the largest constraint: validation, readiness, conversations, activation, retention, or payment.
  3. Recommend one action and at most two ranked alternatives.
  4. Create one artifact for the chosen action.
  5. Record the result in .gtm/ and decide whether to continue, change, or stop. A later chat or a different agent in the same folder resumes that plan.

Tools are evidence, not the strategy

Nichestarter can add project-scoped pain monitoring. NicheReach can find relevant Reddit threads and help draft safe replies. NicheMatch can support complementary partnerships. The Coach uses these only when they serve the current weekly bet.

The workflow still runs without Premium or an API key. The founder remains responsible for publishing, sending, spending, and approving decisions.

Projects beyond software

The same strategic loop applies to a service, newsletter, digital product, community, creator project, brand, course, or marketplace—but the definition of value changes. A service needs a qualified call or paid audit. A newsletter needs the right reader to subscribe and return. A marketplace needs one narrow segment to complete a real match.

FAQ

Do I need a coding agent or a code repository?

No. You need an AI agent that can read the skill instructions. A repository is useful for software and technical SEO, but a website or project brief is enough.

Does the AI agent publish marketing content for me?

No. It can plan, draft, and analyze. You review and publish, send, post, or approve every external action.

Is the GTM Coach free?

Yes. The skill works with a free account and without Premium. Paid project seats optionally add scoped pain monitoring and NicheReach auto-discovery.

Do I paste the skill URL every time I open a new chat?

Only the first time per agent. The Coach copies the bundle into that agent’s skills folder (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or WorkBuddy each have their own path). After that, say “GTM Coach” plus the situation. The plan lives in .gtm/ in the project folder, so switching agents keeps the data; install the skill once on the new agent.
