Individuals entering the professional art world through unpaid internships are being trapped by suddenly-extended commitments, volatile and boundary-violating gallery owners, and personal-service demands (errands, physical contact, hugs) that have nothing to do with art training. Because the abusive owner is also the sole authority and there are no HR structures, reporting channels, or enforceable protections in small galleries, victims have literally nowhere to turn.
