IEP Accommodations That Excuse Note-Taking Undermine Learning Retention

A growing number of students have IEPs that explicitly excuse them from taking notes, based on the mistaken belief that sharing notes is equivalent to learning. This policy prevents students from developing the critical skill of synthesizing information, which is the very process that drives retention and understanding.
