• Scrolling is subconscious and automatic — users can't catch themselves before hours are lost

  A recurring, intensely painful pattern across sources: scrolling happens on autopilot, before conscious decision. Users describe picking up the phone 'almost like my body reacts before I can even think,' reaching for it during movies, meals, and work without noticing, and losing entire evenings or years of life to it. ADHD users in particular report they cannot do anything — work out, clean, study — without a phone playing in the background, and that the moment they intend to start a task their brain 'goes NOPE and physically removes them.' Existing tools only measure or block apps; none interrupt the automatic impulse at the exact moment it begins, and none offer a gentle, reflection-triggering pause. The inability to interrupt doomscrolling before it becomes a lost hour is the central frustration there is still no good solution for.
