• Medication Management Collapse for Cognitively Declining Seniors Living at Home

  Seniors in early cognitive decline are losing the ability to perform basic medication tasks essential to survival — counting pills, reading clocks, tracking doses, sequencing multi-drug schedules. Patients describe being able to reason through a complex concept one moment and then being literally unable to count four pills in their hand the next. Existing tools (pill organizers, simple alarms) assume intact executive function and fail for real users, and there is no adaptive, cognitively-aware system that actively compensates as the person's abilities fluctuate hour to hour. Families report scrambled doses, missed doses, and dangerous double-dosing, with no reliable 'in-the-background' safety net that works without the senior having to be capable of operating it. This causes severe health risk, ER visits, and constant caregiver anxiety, and it is a sharply growing problem with essentially no product designed for the actual failure mode of dementia (task-switching, visual-spatial and attention deficits), making it a high-value, unsolved, directly on-topic gap.
