  • No truly free, self-hostable, feature-complete alternative to Notion and other per-seat SaaS

    Indie builders, small teams and privacy-conscious users are trapped by aggressive per-seat and per-action pricing on tools like Notion, Typeform, Airtable, Calendly and Zapier. Notion now caps workspaces at 1,000 blocks once there are more than 2 members, and users report that even 'self-hosted' alternatives (e.g. AppFlowy) demand payment for self-hosting — which they find absurd. Users who try to leave Notion for privacy reasons discover that no replacement offers the full feature set they rely on daily (columns, website/widget embeds, real-time collaboration, databases) — FOSS options are buggy, too complex (Obsidian), or lack key features. They are forced to self-host, which shifts the cost into server management, backups, deliverability and 1 AM debugging with no clean migration path. This is a severe, unsolved gap: there is no affordable, self-hostable, privacy-first workspace that matches mainstream SaaS feature-for-feature with unlimited members — a wide-open opportunity for an indie developer to own the 'Notion/Typeform/etc., but under your control' market.
