  Foreign residents and immigrants in Sweden with limited Swedish are exposed to serious healthcare errors because hospitals rely on verbal name confirmation and do not proactively check identity bands or language needs. In one real case, an Icelandic immigrant went to the ER after a head injury and was accidentally escorted into a locked psychiatric ward after mishearing a common '-sson' surname. Staff did not confirm his identity or understand his language limitations, leading to a terrifying and humiliating situation that delayed his actual X-ray and CT scan. Existing translation apps are not integrated into clinical workflows, and no hospital-facing system ensures language-aware, fail-safe patient identification. This is an urgent, unsolved patient-safety and integration problem facing Sweden's increasingly diverse population.
